Fix upside-down and sideways pages

Scanned sideways, photographed at an angle, exported from a spreadsheet in landscape — PDFs arrive with wrong orientations all the time. When you rotate pdf pages with GroPDF, the fix is permanent: the rotation is baked into the file, so it displays correctly everywhere — on phones, in email previews, and in print — not just in one viewer.

How to rotate a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the page. Everything runs locally on your device.
  2. Choose the angle: 90°, 180°, or 270°.
  3. Pick the pages. Leave the pages box empty to rotate the whole document, or type specific pages like 2, 4-6 when only some pages are wrong.
  4. Click rotate and download the corrected file.

Tips

  • Only some pages are sideways? That's common with mixed scans. Rotate just those pages instead of the whole file — the per-page box accepts the same 1-3, 5 format as Split PDF.
  • Rotation is lossless. Unlike rotating an image, rotating PDF pages doesn't degrade quality at all — text and vector graphics stay razor sharp.
  • Fix orientation before converting. If you plan to turn pages into images with PDF to PNG, rotate first so the exported images come out the right way up.

Limitations

This tool rotates in 90-degree steps only — it can't straighten a page that's tilted by a few degrees from a crooked scan. For that kind of deskewing you'd need a scanner app. Also, rotation changes page orientation, not page size: a landscape page rotated to portrait keeps its dimensions, just turned.

Dealing with scanned documents

Scans are the most common rotation headache: a stack fed through the feeder often comes out with every other page flipped, or the whole batch sideways. The per-page box is your friend here — list just the wrong ones (e.g. 2, 5, 8-12) and leave the rest untouched. One more tip: some scanners store rotation as a “view” setting rather than a real rotation, which is why pages look fine in one app and sideways in another. GroPDF applies a true rotation, so the fix sticks everywhere.

Steps at a glance

  1. Upload your PDF — page thumbnails appear so you can see which pages need fixing.
  2. Choose a rotation angle: 90°, 180°, or 270°.
  3. Optionally enter specific page numbers (like 2, 4-6); leave blank to rotate all pages.
  4. Click Rotate PDF and download the corrected file.

Why rotate PDFs with GroPDF?

Scanned documents and phone photos often come out sideways, and fixing them shouldn't require installing software. GroPDF rotates pages by changing the page's rotation metadata rather than re-rendering content, so the operation is instant and lossless. The thumbnail preview lets you confirm exactly which pages are wrong before you commit, and you can target just those pages instead of rotating the whole document.

Common use cases

  • Fixing scanned pages that came out sideways from a document feeder.
  • Correcting phone photos of documents saved as PDF in the wrong orientation.
  • Turning landscape pages upright in a mixed-orientation report.
  • Flipping upside-down pages in a scanned book.

Things to know

Rotation adjusts the page orientation flag, which every PDF reader respects. In rare cases, a PDF with unusual internal structure may need the pages re-rendered; if a rotated page still looks wrong in your reader, try the Organize PDF tool's rotate option as an alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. Enter page numbers like '2, 4-6' in the pages field. Leave it blank to rotate every page.

Does rotating reduce quality?

No. Rotation changes the page's orientation metadata without touching the content, so it's completely lossless.

What's the difference between 90°, 180°, and 270°?

90° turns the page a quarter-turn clockwise, 270° a quarter-turn counter-clockwise, and 180° flips it upside-down. Pick whichever makes the page read correctly.

My whole PDF is sideways. Do I have to fix pages one by one?

No — leave the pages field blank and every page rotates at once.
