Why redact a PDF?
Contracts, medical records, court filings and ID scans often contain names, account numbers or addresses that must not be shared. Redacting a PDF means permanently removing that sensitive content — and it has to be done properly. Drawing a black rectangle in a viewer or image editor only covers the text: anyone can select, copy or delete the rectangle and read what is underneath.
How GroPDF redacts — truly permanent
GroPDF rebuilds every redacted page from a fresh image with your black boxes burned into the pixels. There is no text layer left under the boxes to recover — not by selecting, not by deleting annotations, not with any PDF tool. Pages you did not mark are copied losslessly, so the rest of your document keeps its original quality, text and layout.
How to redact a PDF
- Drop your PDF onto the page. It never leaves your device — everything runs locally in your browser.
- Tap a page thumbnail, then draw boxes (click or touch-drag) over every piece of sensitive information.
- Use Undo box or Clear page to fix mistakes before you finish.
- Click “Redact PDF” and download the result. Double-check it, because redaction is permanent and cannot be undone.
Tip: zoom in on your screen and make each box slightly larger than the text it covers, so no edge of a character peeks out.
